These are the Daves I know
In the infinite amount of time spent at work thinking about things other than the ever so compelling task at hand, here is a list of quasi-celebrities encountered personally in the short time I've been on this planet. Notice the list skews heavily Canadian, although how much longer that trend continues is anyone's guess.
The list (in no particular chronological order)
The list (in no particular chronological order)
- Former Maple Leafs goalie and hockey legend Johnny Bower.
- National Post columnist Christie Blatchford bought yours truly a drink once after attending a gala dinner honouring her distinguished career. Back in the student reporter days naturally.
- Former Maple Leafs goalie and general underperformer Felix Potvin.
- Regine and Jeremy of the Arcade Fire.
- Slum Village
- Bobby Bonds, Orlando Cepeda (1991 MLB All-Star Fanfest)
- Lead singer of Ambulance Ltd. before their set opening for the Killers last year. (Gist of conversation: Me "You guys were great on Letterman the other night." Him "Thanks man."
- Hockey Night In Canada loudmouth Don Cherry.
- WWE Canada president Carl DeMarco.
- Wrestler Yoshihiro Tajiri inadvertently bled on me during an ECW PPV in 1999. Comes with the territory.
- Interviewed West Wing president and celebrity activist Martin Sheen for school paper.
- 29 year old Windsor mayor Eddie Francis. (says a lot about a city when a 29 year old can ascend to the position of mayor before he's 30.)
- Former Toronto Blue Jay and 2003 AL Rookie of the Year candidate (at one point) Aquilino Lopez.
- One of the guys from Supergrass tried to fight me for writing something derogatory to him while they were being interviewed on Muchmusic. That's what they get for having street level studios and a glass backdrop.
- Last and not least, but the most I can recall at the moment- Dustin Diamond aka Screech. Saw him performing standup, everyone was ripping into him with Lisa Turtle and Belding references. Eventually friend sitting next to me, never the cleverest of chaps yells out "I paid 14 bucks for this" to which Screech retorts, and this will give you some indication as to how potentially comical he was "I'll pay 15 bucks to come down there and kick your ass!" A meeting of the minds has never yielded such an evenly contested result.
- (Updated) I used to work with the guy from Billy Talent. Not the lead singer, not the drummer, not the guy with the weird hair, the other one.
- (Updated) Katie Holmes, Chad Michael Murray at Duke University filming Dawson's Creek. Coming back from Daytona Beach spring break 2002, wandering around campus stumbled on to a scene being filmed. Between takes Katie started looking at me weird for having a video camera around my neck- who's the weird one now???
